1917
The three brothers Louis, Carl and Gunnar Hartmann started the company after inheriting their father’s paper bag factory in Lyngby, Denmark
1936 Hartmann acquired the license to produce egg packaging in moulded fibre from an American firm. Hence a machine was designed by Carl Hartmann for the production
1936 The first subsidiary, Scandinavian Packing Company, was founded for producing egg trays
1945 Hartmann Fibre Company Ltd. was established in England
1957 Gunnar Hartmann died
1959 The sales office in Frankfurt opened
1959 Carl Hartmann died
1962 The new factory for Scandinavian Packing Company opened in Tønder
1962 The sales office in England opened
1970 The Hartmann Foundation was founded by Louis Hartmann
1971 Louis Hartmann died
1973 The production in Lyngby moved to Tønder, Denmark and the factory became Europe’s largest and most modern for production of egg trays and other products of moulded fibre.
1978 Hartmann acquired Skjern Papirfabrik
1980 Scandinavian Packing Company and Brødrene Hartmann A/S merged, with Brødrene Hartmann A/S as the continuing company
1982 Hartmann was quoted on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange
1984 The sales office in France opened
1984 The egg carton Plus Pack™ was introduced to the market
1988 The sales office in Switzerland opened
1991 The factory in the former East Germany was established
1992 The factory in Hungary was acquired
1993 The sales office in Poland opened
1994 Hartmann established the Industrial packaging business area
1996 Hartmann opened the factory in Malaysia and acquired activities in Brazil
1998 The factory in Argentina was acquired
1999 Factories in Croatia, Finland and Israel were acquired
1999 The egg carton Superface® was introduced to the market
2000 Hartmann received the European Union environment price “European Management Award for Environmental & Sustainability Development”
2002 Hartmann established production in Brantford, Canada
2003 The egg carton imagic® was introduced to the market
2004 The sales office in Serbia opened
2005 Skjern Papirfabrik was sold
2007 The activities in South America and Asia were put up for sale
2008 The headquarter in Denmark moved from Lyngby to Gentofte
2008 Hartmann issued new shares and the share classes were merged to only one
2009 The business area Industrial packaging was merged with the business area Egg packaging
