The Helpful Hens brand was launched by Egg Innovations - a company built on three pillars: Chickens. People. Planet. Every decision they take gives deep consideration to how it benefits the welfare of their chickens, their talented team of people, and the longevity of planet Earth. Everyone - from the family farmers caring for their flocks to the team handling the eggs - is committed to doing the right thing, as best they can. 

Egg Innovations goes way beyond just cage free – it brings the blessings of premium free-range, pasture-raised, and organic eggs to consumers across the country. Now rooted in more than 50 family farms, their regenerative farming practices were inspired by the founder and owner, John Brunnquell, Ph.D.  - who realized that they had a responsibility for thousands of acres of pasture and felt a duty to take care of them in a way that was more beneficial to the environment.

So unsurprisingly, Helpful Hens eggs are earth-friendly eggs, produced using 100% sustainable farming practices. Helpful Hens is on a mission to restore the soil and rejuvenate the Earth, building green ecosystems around their hens and working in harmony with nature to minimize their carbon footprint. The first regeneratively-farmed, premium eggs to hit the market, the Helpful Hens brand promotes soil health, carbon sequestration and diverse pastures, as their hens lead the efforts to aerate, graze, and fertilize the land.

How Helpful Hens helps the earth

This undertaking to rejuvenate the Earth and restore the soil, one egg at a time, is shouldered by every one of the employees, farmers, and chickens at Egg Innovations. Their regenerative farming practices include planting cover crops, trees, and diversifying the foliage of these pastures - providing an environment for pollinators to thrive in, while also ensuring protection for the chickens. From sunflowers to apple trees, to willows, plant diversity stimulates carbon sequestration. The additional plants purify the air by absorbing carbon through photosynthesis and naturally enriching the topsoil; the plants breathe in carbon dioxide and replace the carbon in the soil as they breathe out the oxygen.

Egg Innovations has been working with Hartmann for nearly 20 years. In the early days, they were just a small volume customer, but over the years, they’ve built new brands and brought in new customers - and as fast as they’ve grown, Hartmann  has adapted its service to meet their evolving needs. We’ve even customized the standard fiber carton to produce hybrid cartons and other unique packaging attributes. This unique service is apparent in the bright and colorful cartons produced by Hartmann from 100% post-consumer, recycled paper fiber cartons – printed with eco-conscious, water-based soy inks., which won a 2022 Dieline Award!
