UN highlights eggs’ value to world nutrition
The United Nations (UN) chose World Food Day to draw attention to the “amazing power” of the humble egg - declaring eggs “one of the world’s star ingredients”. In a glowing tribute recently, a top UN envoy highlighted this everyday ingredient’s “extraordinary” ability to “nourish children, fuel progress and – when farmed properly…help secure the whole world’s future”.
“A great example of good food”, said Agnes Kalibata, UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to the Food Systems Summit. “Eggs are both nutritious and accessible to people in all parts of the world. They can bring a family together, keep a child in school, or fuel a brighter future”.
And she went on to praise the global egg production sector for helping create resilient and sustainable food systems, providing high-quality nutrition for all.
“An egg is not just an egg” – This inspiring UN film tells how an egg can nourish millions and protect our world for the future.
The future of the world depends on good, nutritious food being accessible to everyone - it’s that simple, according to the UN. Good, healthy, sustainable food strengthens our communities, powers our economies, and protects our planet. Not to mention keeping us alive. And there are few foods more nutritious, sustainable, and accessible than the egg. So all of us involved in egg production are doing our bit to help the world.
And naturally, we at Hartmann are not only playing our part, but also supporting the others in the chain who are excelling at theirs.
Star ingredients, of course, need stellar packaging - eggs can’t save the world on their own. So, the millions of sustainable egg cartons produced by Hartmann each year help egg producers to get the message across to consumers in store. Enticing graphics, ingenious designs and clever marketing services all mesh together to drive the egg’s incredible contribution to sustainable global nutrition.
Founded in 1945 as a force for good, the United Nations has evolved over the years to keep pace with a rapidly changing world. Currently comprising 193 Member States, the UN and its work are still guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter. It remains the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can gather, discuss common problems and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity.
